"When Ryne Duren failed to come back as the ace Yankee relief pitcher early this season and was traded to Los Angeles, the Yankees looked again to their farm system for further replacements. A big, young, husky right-hander, who had impressed Manager Ralph Houk in spring training, was called up from Richmond. He was Hal Reniff, relief ace of the Virginians in the AAA International League.
A 21-game winner for Modesto in 1959, Hal has been a relief hurler primarily for the last couple of years. In his first several appearances this summer, Hal was most effective. He had not been scored on in his first seven relief chores for the Yankees. Now he is teaming with Luis Arroyo and Tex Clevenger as the 'short' relief men on the Yankee squad."

"When the Yankees needed pitching help early in 1961, they looked to their farm system for a replacement. A six-foot, 195-pound, young (23), right-hander, who had impressed Manager Ralph Houk in spring training, was called up from Richmond in June. He was Hal Reniff, relief ace of the Virginians in the Triple-A International League. He's a husky athlete with good tools and is a natural relief man.
A 21-game winner for Modesto in 1959, Hal has been primarily a relief hurler in the minors. He was in 23 games for Richmond this year and 25 for the Yankees. In his first seven relief chores for New York, he was not scored upon. Hal won two and saved two others for the Houkmen, posting a creditable 2.58 ERA.
Reniff lives in Ontario, California. He was born in Warren, Ohio."
