1960 Profiles: Dan Topping and Del Webb

"Yankee fans are proud of the long and distinguished tradition of their ball club- but no more so than are the Co-Owners of the team. Since acquiring control of the Yankees at the end of World War II, Bomber clubs operated by Dan Topping and Del Webb have captured 10 American League pennants and an amazing eight World Championships.
Now, as a new decade begins, it is the hope of the Yankee owners that the new generation of Yankee fans in the greater New York area and across the country will be as proud of their team as have the fans who have been rooting for the Yanks down through the years. It is the aim of Yankee management to continue that tradition of triumph in the traditional 'Home of Champions'.
The Yankees are New York's and the nation's team ... with top management on and off the field providing the best in baseball ALWAYS."

DANIEL R. TOPPING (Co-Owner)
"Basically a fan, Dan Topping's first objective is the successful operation of the New York Yankees. Dan has been active in sports all his life. He played college baseball and football, is an excellent golfer and was former owner of the Brooklyn Football Dodgers and later the Yankees of the All-America Football Conference.
A New York resident, Topping attends almost every game at home and maintains an active pace in keeping his Yankees strong and successful. Under his direction, Yankee Stadium- like the team itself- is constantly being modernized for the convenience of Yankee fans to maintain its reputation as the finest stadium in the land."

"The successful over-all operation of the New York Yankees is the constant goal of Co-Owner Dan Topping. Basically a fan, Dan has been active in sports all of his life, both as participant and executive. With Del Webb, he has guided the Yankee organization for the past 16 years. In that time the Yanks have won 11 pennants and eight world championships to date. A director of many corporations, Topping gives most of his time to the Yankees."

DEL E. WEBB (Co-Owner)
"Like his fellow Co-Owner, Del Webb is an ardent baseball fan. Though his multifarious activities keep him almost constantly on the move around the country, Del is in touch with his Yankees daily and sees then in person whenever his schedule permits.
He comes by his baseball enthusiasm honestly ... for he started out as a pro pitcher. After a promising start, arm trouble ended his diamond career. From there, he moved into the construction business and eventually developed one of the nation's largest construction firms, the Del E. Webb Company of Phoenix and Los Angeles, where he is headquartered. Today  he has expanded these activities into other fields, but baseball is his first interest."

"Although he heads one of the nation's largest construction firms, Yankee Co-Owner Del Webb is in daily touch with the ball club. Like his partner Dan Topping, Webb is an ardent baseball fan. Thwarted in his attempt to reach the major leagues as a pitcher because of arm trouble, Webb made it with emphatic success as Yankee Co-Owner. Despite his other activities, Del finds time to follow the Yankees and serve baseball in other capacities."
