1960 New York Yankees Management Profiles

GEORGE M. WEISS (General Manager)
"The record of the Yankee General Manager speaks for itself! The 1948 season was his first as GM. Take a look at the story of the Yankees since then. The Yanks have won nine pennants and seven World Championships in the last dozen years. And George Weiss earned his reputation as an outstanding baseball administrator. After successfully operating his own club in New Haven and later the Baltimore Orioles, he was brought into the Yankee organization in 1932 by Col. Jacob Ruppert, then owner of the Bombers. He developed the Yankee farm system, the source for most of the great names who have graced the club's roster in the last three decades.
The Yankees have won 18 of their 24 pennants and 15 of their 18 World Championships since Weiss joined the organization. Three times he was named Major League Executive of the Year by the Sporting News. With Casey Stengel as his field manager, the Weiss-Stengel team has produced the most successful era of any sports team."
